We've always got our eyes open for shifts in policy and legislation, and the initiatives and funding opportunities that result from them. "Eagle Eye" posts will keep you in the loop on changes we're seeing unfold across Canada and what they mean for Indigenous communities.  

 

We've got our sights set on a number of funding deadlines in the coming months that will be of interest.   • nuclear project reviews in the Ottawa River watershed and the Winnipeg River/Lake of the Woods watershed, plus
  • the new Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines Aboriginal Economic Development Fund Regional Partnership Grant,
  • the Ontario150 Community Celebration Program, and
  • the Ontario Energy Partnerships Program

Aboriginal Economic Development Fund Regional Partnership Grant - Ontario

Ministry of Northern Development and Mines

 

Deadline: August 26, 2016

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous communities and partnerships 

These grants support economic development through investments in regional and province wide projects that that improve skills training opportunities and provide financing for promising opportunities. Regional Partnership Grants can also help smaller projects with potential to expand to multiple communities or go province wide.

 

Maximum Amount Available: $250,000

 

Ontario150 Community Celebration Program - Ontario

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport

 

Deadline: September 2, 2016

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous communities, not-for-profit organizations and municpalities

The Community Celebration Program’s objective is to facilitate the creation and delivery of impactful, participatory and inclusive initiatives that celebrate and commemorate Canada and Ontario’s 150th anniversary. Eligible initiatives include multicultural events and community celebrations of any size that are open to the public. 

 

Maxiumum Amount Available: 75% of the initiative's total eligible cash operating expenses

 

Participant Funding - Near Surface Nuclear Waste Disposal Facility 

(Renfrew County - Ottawa River Watershed)

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

 

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous communities, local stakeholders, not-for-profit organizations 

Deadline: September 2, 2016

Funding is being offered to assist Aboriginal groups and other stakeholders to participate in the environmental assessment, licence application review and Commission hearing processes for the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Near Surface Disposal Facility Project in Renfrew County, Ontario.

 

Maximum Amount Available: $100,000 (total funding pool)

 

 

Participant Funding - Whiteshell Rector Decomissioning

(Winnipeg River/Lake of the Woods Watershed)

 

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

 

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous communities, local stakeholders, not-for-profit organizations 

Deadline: September 2, 2016

Funding is being offered to to assist Aboriginal groups and other stakeholders in participating in the environmental assessment, licence application review and Commission hearing processes for the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) In Situ Decommissioning of the Whiteshell Reactor #1 Project.

 

Maximum Amount Available: $100,000 (total funding pool)

 

Energy Partnerships Program - Ontario 

Independent Electricity System Operator

 

Deadline: November 4, 2016

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous communities

This funding initiative promotes participation in Ontario’s energy sector by providing funding support to Indigenous communities to develop energy projects. The program is divided into three streams:

   

Partnership stream - Legal technical and financial due diligence to assess and develop partnerships

Maximum Amount Available: $50,000 for up to 80% of total project costs

Project Development Stream - Soft costs associated with developing projects, such as environmental assessments and site specific studies

Maximum Amount Available: $250,000

Remote Projects Development Stream – Developing renewable energy solutions to offset diesel use

Maximum Amount Available: $500,000
