We've always got our eyes open for shifts in policy and legislation, and the initiatives and funding opportunities that result from them. "Eagle Eye" posts will keep you in the loop on changes we're seeing unfold across Canada and what they mean for Indigenous communities.

Community Readiness and Opportunities Planning (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut)

Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency

 

Funding Available: March 31, 2017

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous governments, councils, organizations

The CROP fund is intended to improve the economic development capacity of Indigenous communities and increase economic development in the three territories. It achieves this by providing financial support to First Nations and Inuit communities so they can improve their capacity and prepare to plan for, pursue, and participate in economic opportunities.

 

Maximum Amount Available: 80% of project costs, until funding is depleted

 

 Lands and Economic Development Services Program (Canada)

Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada

 

Funding Available: March 31, 2017 until all program resources are awarded

Eligible Applicants: First Nation communities and their governments, including Tribal Councils

The Lands and Economic Development Services Program (LEDSP) helps Indigenous communities build and manage a solid land base for economic development activities. Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Initiatives that enhance environmental planning, awareness and support efforts towards pollution prevention in communities
  • Initiatives that support environmental management best practices with land and community assets
  • Initiatives to improve environmental regulatory compliance

First Nations and Inuit Skills Link (Canada)

Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada

 

Deadline: April 13, 2017

Eligible Applicants: First Nations governments & schools and non-profit organizations

The First Nations and Inuit Skills Link Program supports activities that assist youth (15-30) in acquiring the essential skills that will help them gain employment, function well in the workplace, and learn about job and career options.

Maximum Amount Available: Not Specified

 

Creating, Knowing and Sharing (Canada)

Canada Council for the Arts

 

Deadline: April 15, 2017

Eligible Applicants: Indigenous artists and cultural carriers, and collaborations let by Indigenous members

This program is designed to support the reclamation, retention, renewal and transmission of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultural knowledge and creative practice. 

Maximum Amount Available: $30,000 - $300,000
