SVS News

IndHistoryMonth_2025_doig

At SVS, we have had the privilege of working alongside visionary leaders across Turtle Island on their path to building strong, resilient communities. For National Indigenous History Month, we are celebrating the inspiring work of our clients.

To kick off this celebratory month, we are thrilled to highlight the very special project detailed below:

Doig River First Nation is a strong and vibrant community—deeply connected to the land, rich in Dane-zaa culture, and guided by generations of knowledge, tradition, and leadership. Language, stories, and relationships are actively lived and passed down, creating a powerful sense of identity and belonging. The community is undertaking bold, creative, and culturally grounded work to make their Nation even stronger—strengthening governance, restoring language, protecting the land, and building opportunity for future generations.

As part of this ongoing work, Doig River leadership wanted to ensure that every step they take aligns with the community’s values and long-term vision. To support this, they set out to develop a Community Well-Being Plan that would serve as a clear and meaningful roadmap for both immediate action and long-term planning. They enlisted SVS to work closely with community members, staff, and leadership through storytelling, interviews, videography, and photography to capture the perspectives, histories, and lived experiences of community members.

The results of this project were intended to guide program planning and support leadership in making informed, community-driven decisions. The outcome was a Community Well-Being Plan rooted in the values of Doig River First Nation, as well as a short video celebrating what it means to belong to this special place.
